We would not consider secretly video taping our agents during open houses or at any other time. They are independent contractors. I believe the key word here is secret. Obtaining permission to tape for educational reasons woud be something to consider, but again, permission would need to be obtained from any other people taped.
This is too “big brother is watching” for me. I also asked our Director of Education and a few Brokers in Charge for their opinions. They were more adamant that I in stating that this was not something that we would do to our agents if we expected them to remain with our company.
However, when i sopke with my New Home Community Director, he has used “secret shoppers” to drop in on his on-site agents. These agents conduct ongoing open houses and that is their job to sell that community. These agent are also employed by the developer for that community and accept that secret shoppers are part of their onsite sale expectations.
The resale agent holds their open house for their seller and it is on a voluntary basis. They recieve training from our education department on how to interact with prospects. If our company wants to check on their performance, than our brokers will visit agents during their open houses and observe. We won’t do it in secret.
